AFTER MY TIME IN SCHOOL, I REALIZED THAT I AM A PERSON WHO HAS A STRONG LOVE FOR LEARNING, COMMONLY KNOWN AS A PHILOMATH.
Education is often touted as the key to success, but what happens when traditional education fails to engage and inspire us? For many individuals, the traditional school system does not cater to their unique interests and learning styles, leading to a disinterest in learning and a lack of motivation to succeed academically. This was the case for me; I never enjoyed studying nor going to school because I found my subjects boring.
After struggling through college for five years due to the unavailability of my major subjects, I made the decision to quit school. It was only after leaving the traditional education system that I realized I had not learned anything that could land me a good job. At this crossroads, I made the decision to educate myself on things that interested me.
I discovered that I was a philomath, someone who loves to learn. I studied subjects that intrigued me, and because of that, I started to learn continuously. The freedom to explore my interests and learn at my own pace was liberating, and my newfound love for learning led me to build a career filled with fantastic experiences, travel to four continents and lots of countries, and create a life full of meaning and happiness.
Despite my successes, there are still those who consider me a failure because I am not wealthy based on society's standards. I have been told that I am unrealistic and confused, but I have learned that success and happiness are subjective. Society often pressures us to achieve material wealth and measure our success based on external factors, but true success is about fulfilling our own unique potential and living a life that makes us happy.
I have come to realize that the traditional education system is not the only path to success, and that pursuing our passions and interests can lead to a fulfilling and meaningful life. Education is not just about studying subjects that will lead to a specific job or career; it is about expanding our knowledge and understanding of the world around us.
I believe that everyone has the right to an education that engages and inspires them, and that education should be tailored to each individual's unique interests and learning styles. The traditional education system may not work for everyone, but there are alternative pathways to success that can lead to a fulfilling and happy life.
My experience has taught me that true success is not about conforming to society's standards or achieving material wealth, but about pursuing our passions and interests, and living a life full of meaning and happiness. Education is not just about studying for a specific job or career, but about expanding our knowledge and understanding of the world around us. It is never too late to start learning and pursuing our passions, and we should never be discouraged by those who do not understand our journey.
